Flexible Forms, Playful Patterns | August 14, 2025

This Week’s Highlight

This week’s video feels like a little personal adventure because I finally tried a format I’ve been dreaming about for ages! It’s all about process: lots of experiments, trials and errors, and the sparks of inspiration that shaped each idea. I wanted to show not just the final result, but how it came to be—a playful visualization that turns textures into data you can actually explore.

What Inspires Me

I’m loving Flexflex, a typeface by Roni Kaufman. Instead of fitting letters into a fixed design, it adapts to any rectangular space, stretching and transforming as needed.

It’s a JavaScript library (not a downloadable font) that draws letters on SVG or canvas, letting you tweak corners, end caps, slant, and thickness while keeping a minimal, modular, monoline design—a perfect example of creativity within constraints.

Texture Index 🎨

Another week, another Data Mini Challenge! This is the second week of our four-part series, where we turn everyday moments into meaningful data. Last week was all about colors—this week, we’re focusing on textures.

Your challenge: collect, experiment, and visualize the patterns you see around you. Notice surfaces, materials, or objects that catch your eye, and play with ways to turn those textures into something visual and meaningful.

Share your process, your experiments, and, of course, your final outcome. Can’t wait to see what you create!

Until next week!
